Quality of Education
You will receive organized curriculum and a 275-page manual that dives into fundamental aspects of yoga such as anatomy, alignment, philosophy, the business of yoga, methods of teaching, and so much more! Your education is structured into two powerful modules that intelligently progress, keeping your mind engaged and your body balanced throughout our time together. This training is a culmination of decades of study and practice, providing you with a thoughtful and inspiring program. Our aim is that you receive the most out of your experience!
Students often times get lost in a sea of 30, 50, or upwards of 100 other participants within a single yoga training. My biggest takeaway? That is hard…. It was life changing. It helped me to deal with things I’ve always kind of walked away or ran away from. It is hard to put into words, but that’s the most profound thing. It helped unlock some healing and insight into who I am and what I have to offer. You are going to be challenged, but you’re also going to be held. You’re going to be taken care of. Michael and Tristina are very supportive, very insightful, and very kind. They make it look easy. Professionals make it look easy. That’s why I chose them.

School & Faculty
I have been a teacher and a trainer for over a decade. My passion is to study and teach the art and science of breath, movement, and stillness. I strive to create a space where students can experience themselves fully. I believe that yoga can help shift our consciousness to a place of true integration. It is my intention to share yoga with precision, creativity, and authenticity.
I thoroughly enjoy daily meditation, dynamic movement, and connecting with his community. You can spot me hanging out in my hometown of Sacramento California on my yoga mat or practicing martial arts.
I left the corporate world behind in 2010 to share my love of yoga and movement with others. I teach a dynamic and creative style of yoga that awakens strength through awareness in energetic alignment. My classes weave in the spiritual aspect of the practice through chanting, meditation, and insightful offerings on yogic philosophy.
I am deeply committed to my personal practice, which is the foundation of my teaching. I have studied various styles of yoga & meditation around the world with an array of respected teachers. I share my knowledge through classes, workshops, and teacher trainings. My deep passion for travel is brought to others through annual retreats in international destinations.
Registered Yoga School
We are Michael Fong & Tristina Kennedy, the founders of Roots to Wings Yoga. Collectively, we have been teaching yoga full-time for almost 20 years. We are health and wellness educators in our Sacramento community and abroad.
Yes, we have done all of the wild things you might expect from dedicated yoga practitioners! We’ve studied with our guru at her ashram near the foot of the Himalayas in India. We have meditated for days on end with monks in monasteries. We’ve taken thousands of hours of trainings to diversify our knowledge.
Our approach to the practice is very unique. We blend traditional yoga and meditation techniques with modern science. Each class we teach is informed by functional anatomy, biomechanics, and an array of movement methodologies. We want you to move and feel well for many years to come.
Our method of yoga is sustainable, balanced, creative, and fun! The people who participate in our classes range from professional athletes in their 20s, to individuals with significant movement restrictions in their 80s. We know how to effectively tailor different styles of yoga to fit the needs of a very diverse audience.
We founded Roots to Wings Yoga from the strong desire to have a platform to share our teachings across the globe. We are an official Registered Yoga School with the Yoga Alliance. It is our great privilege to teach yoga all over the globe. We can’t wait to practice with you! Let’s grow together!
We offer a weekend-based schedule that is quite accessible for the working person with life’s responsibilities. In-person sessions are on Saturday & Sunday, for 7 hours per day. These include practice and intensive study delving into the many layers of yoga.
In addition to the in-person hours, there will be a combination of virtual content and self-study homework to be done both before and during the program. The virtual content will consist of 18-20 hours, and be a combination of curriculum and practice. On average, we find that students should plan on setting aside between 2-5 hours each week for self-study work and practice outside of the training hours.
We will be monitoring updates to any guidelines regarding COVID-19. At the time this webpage was published, the capacity for the training is 12 students. Everyone must be fully vaccinated in order to participate in the training.
We hold only one local training each year, working with smaller groups to provide personalized attention and support.
Celebrate your hard work with our four-day graduation retreat! The location is just a few blocks from Lake Tahoe. There are shared bathrooms & dorm-style rooms with bunk beds. We will be taking proper measures to keep common surfaces sanitized. After 3 committed months, it is so special to get away, integrate/celebrate all that you’ve learned and enjoy time together in nature. Delicious homemade vegetarian meals (cooked by Tristina’s Italian Mamma!)
and accommodations are provided for you; just pack your bag and go!
